Hot Springs Convention Center Closed to Public Until at Least April 1 Due to Concern for Public, Employee Health Due to Virus

The Hot Springs Convention Center, including Bank OZK Arena, was closed to the public, effective Tuesday evening, following recommendations from governmental and public-health officials regarding the coronavirus.

“After reading the news and the Centers for Disease Control reports I have decided to close our building at the end of business today,” Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison said. “We will have several key employees continue to work to make sure our customers and buildings are still taken care of during our closure.”

He said the rest of the staff would be sent home.

“We will evaluate the safety recommendations for the country on Monday, March 30,” he said. “All employees will be required to check in with their supervisors at that time. If conditions have improved we will bring all employees back to work on April 1.

“Our first responsibility is to our employees, their families and our clients.

“I feel strongly this is the best and only course of action we can take to protect them from this growing threat.”
