Three hundred riders from several states are expected in Hot Springs February 16 – 17 for the first races to be held on the city’s new Northwoods Trail System.  The events are the Wildcat Marathon and Northwoods Enduro races, according to Traci Berry, Northwoods Trails coordinator for Visit Hot Springs. The race location will be Cedar Glades Park, 461 Wildcat Road.  Produced by Texas-based Kodiak Tough and sponsored by Visit Hot Springs, the Hot Springs races are part of the Southern Enduro series, which includes six events in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

“This is the first race in the Northwoods since it opened in November,” Berry said. “We are super-stoked to have Kodiak Tough bringing their marathon and enduro event to Northwoods. We want riders from all over the country to experience what we have here in Hot Springs and with over 300 riders coming from multiple states, the Wildcat Marathon and Northwoods Enduro will do just that.  It’s going to be sick!!”

“Kodiak Tough events bring riders from all over the country,” she said. “This is the perfect opportunity for us to showcase Northwoods Trails and all the other awesome attractions that Hot Springs has to offer.”

“These events are going to be some of the most fun events of your season,” Kodiak Tough said on the website where mountain bike racers are kept informed about the Southern Enduro series. “The Wildcat Marathon will be an amazing 22-ish mile lap. It will combine Cedar Glades trails and Northwoods trails.”

It described the race course as “fast single-track, machine-cut trail, loads of speed, and tough climbs to make sure your memory is fulfilled by the end of the day.”  It said the marathon will be a two-lap format totaling approximately 45 miles.

Total prize money will be $2,900, Kodiak said. Prize money will go to the top 10 men finishers and the top five women regardless of class. There will be $1,500 in raffle prizes to all riders.

The Northwoods Enduro is described as “a unique balance of flow line, hand-cut single track, and some old school.” It said the Enduro would use mostly Northwoods trails but will have a mix of Cedar Glades trails also.

“We will strive to keep you on your toes,” Kodiak Tough said. It described the course as a big-lap format covering approximately 20 miles. It said there will be a $2,500 pro payout and over $2,500 in raffle prizes to all riders.  Both events will be based out of Cedar Glades Park.  There will be an Enduro pre-party and course viewing at Superior Bathhouse and Brewery on the evening of February 16.

The Northwoods Trail System mountain biking facility is located in the northern section of Hot Springs.

Visit Hot Springs began construction in November 2017 on Phase One of the system of mountain biking trails. The first 14-mile segment of the project provides Hot Springs with an important new tourism attraction aimed at mountain bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts. Phase Two of the trail system will result in a 44.6-mile system of first-class biking trails in the property that incorporates pristine forested hills and three lakes.  For more information contact Traci Berry at 501-321-2027.
