Picnic in GrassSummer is the perfect time for slowing down and traveling – even time traveling! And that is just what you can do when you visit Hot Springs Movies at the Market showing at The Hot Springs Historical Farmers Market.  Each Thursday night in June and July you are invited to travel back to a time when life moved at a slower pace, and when families and friends all loaded up in the car and went to watch movies in the great outdoors, enjoying great company and entertainment.

This summer you won’t want to miss the amazing line-up of FREE movies thanks the generosity of Visit Hot Springs and the Hot Springs Young Professionals.

This year’s selections are:

June 2 – How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
June 9 - Jurassic World
June 16 - Karate Kid (1984)
June 23 - Star Wars: the Force Awakens
June 30 – Cinderella (2015)
July 7 - Despicable Me 2
July 14 - Blue Hawaii
July 21 - Top Gun

And what goes better with an outdoor summer movie, than a picnic?

Right now, before you can change your mind, go ahead prepare a picnic basket to keep waiting by the door. By having a kit already to go, you won’t have any excuse when the picnic mood strikes! All that will be left to do is to call a few friends, throw some blankets in the car, swing by your local grocer, and head out to see one of the great Movies at the Market this summer.

Easy European Inspired Picnic Meal

Pro Tip: This is my family’s favorite meal-to-go at the grocery store on the way if we decide on a picnic last minute. It is inspired by what I imagine a picnic in the rolling provincial hills of France would be like – the perfect picnic for an outdoor movie experience!

1 Loaf of crusty French bed
Bottled sparkling lemonade
Spring Water
Some fresh fruit - locally grown strawberries or peaches are favorites
Grape tomatoes
Package of fresh mozzarella
Package of classic Hummus
Pretzel crackers
Small rotisserie chicken
Spread the cheese, fruit and tomatoes out on your cutting board to serve.  Use your bottled water to rinse your fruit and veggies if needed.
Leave the chicken and hummus in their containers, carving the chicken as needed.
No need to stand on ceremony - this is a picnic! Instead of slicing the bread, just let everyone tear off chunks.

Additional Easy On-the-Go Picnic Meals:

Sushi-to-Go and Iced Green Tea
Cold Quiche (most groceries and delis have this to-go,) French bread, Grapes or Apples, and Lemonade
Sub-Sandwiches, Buttery Popcorn, Sodas

So mark the dates in your calendar now and start gathering your picnic supplies for the perfect #throwbackthursday night out – Movies at the Market in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The films will begin at dark but everyone is invited to arrive as early as 7:30 to watch a few cartoons while you enjoy your picnic! (Forget your picnic basket? No worries, there will also be concessions available!)
