2017 Labor Day Weekend in Hot Springs

Whether spending time with family or friends, there are several different ways to wrap up an unforgettable summer in Hot Springs. Labor Day weekend begins September 1st, so it’s time to start planning your trip to Hot Springs National Park.” Whether you’re a music lover, a lake lover, or looking for one more family get-away, we have something for you.

John Nemeth and the Blue Dreamers 

Labor Day weekend boasts two longtime music festivals for Hot Springs. These annual events, Blues Fest and JazzFest offer Grammy Award-winning headliners and local musicians sure to please.

The Spa City Blues Society's 2017 Blues Festival  will provide a mix of workshops at Hill Wheatley Plaza and live music throughout downtown, including John Nemeth & The Blue Dreamers (pictured above), Nikki Hill and Anthony Gomes. Joining other SCBS affairs including the Gumbo & Crawfish Festival and the Craft Beer Festival, proceeds from this music-filled event go toward the organization's educational program: Blues in the Schools. To learn more about the Blues Festival, click here.

If you're in the mood for jazz, then you'll want to check out the 26th Annual Hot Springs JazzFest! Check in at the Arlington Hotel and Spa on Friday and make your way to the Ohio Club for a drink and the best burger in town. Live music is a staple of this historic club, so plan on staying for the evening’s entertainment.

Wake up early the next morning for breakfast at the Pancake Shop. Plan on waiting in line or browsing next door at the Savory Pantry until your table is ready. A local and visitor favorite, it’s a breakfast sure to please. Live jazz can be found throughout various locations downtown this weekend. 

Los Traileros Del Norte to Perform at Magic Springs Hispanic Heritage Festival

Even more musical acts will be performing in Hot Springs over the holiday weekend. Check out Los Traileros Del Norte (pictured) on Sept. 3 at Magic Springs as part of the Hispanic Heritage Day.

Visual art goes great with music - so stroll down Central Avenue and take in the paintings and sculptures on display during Gallery Walk on Friday, September 1 from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.

FOR THE LAKE LOVERS

Fireworks at the Lake

There are plenty of chances to get out on the water one last time this summer, but you have to plan now. Choose from one of several lakeside lodging options including the cozy Lookout Point Lakeside Inn bed and breakfast, to the family-friendly Long Island Lake Resort. Rooms fill up fast, so it’s best to book early. 

If you don’t have your own means of water transportation, check out Gregg Orr Marine on Lake Hamilton for rentals and for anything you may have left behind, Lake Hamilton Outfitters has you covered from sunscreen to wake boards.

Make sure to save your spot to watch the firework display Sunday night. Launching over Lake Hamilton, kids and adults will enjoy a waterfront breeze while marveling at the fantastic bursts of color.

Looking for a quieter lake venture? Lake Ouachita State Park has plenty of beaches, hiking trails and bird watching to keep you busy and active outdoors.

Grab the kids and get to Mid-America Science Museum for Mindbender Mansion (pictured above). "Enter into the puzzling and perplexing world of Mindbender Mansion, a quirky place full of brainteasers, puzzles, and interactive challenges designed to strengthen problem-solving skills and exercise the brain power of thinkers of all ages and skills."

If you have a budding artist in the family, Cutwell 4 Kids hosts First Saturdays at the Maurice Bathhouse every month for children to express themselves through art projects. For more information on this event, click here.

For the most kid-friendly food, pizza, Hot Springs has several options for the best pies. Brick City Pizza in Uptown serves up fresh, stuffed crust pizza sure to please, or for the adventurous eaters, try a Godfather from Hot Springs’ own Rod’s Pizza on Central Avenue. Of course, no Hot Springs pizza list is complete without DeLuca's - which has earned accolades from across the state and nation!

Finish off with indoor mini golf and laser tag at T-Rex golf, or try the indoor ziplines at Family Fun Park.
